What is clinical nutrition ?

To become a clinical nutritionist, you need a science degree. From anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology, to the chemical components of foods and supplementation. We learn an incredibly large amount about the human body in both health and disease to be able to safely work with you to prevent disease and treat nutritional imbalance.

People will book in to see a clinical nutritionist for a variety of reasons related to their diet and overall health. Some common reasons include:

  • Managing chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or gastrointestinal disorders.

  • Addressing nutrient deficiencies or imbalances.

  • Managing food allergies or sensitivities.

  • Preparing for or recovering from surgery or other medical procedures.

  • Developing a healthy and sustainable eating plan for long-term wellness.

  • Addressing disordered eating behaviors or managing eating disorders.

  • Reducing the risk of chronic disease and optimising overall health through healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices.

Whats is functional medicine?

Functional medicine is an approach to healthcare that focuses on the root causes of disease and aims to promote optimal health and wellness by addressing the underlying imbalances or dysfunctions in the body. It is based on the understanding that each person is unique, and their health concerns are often complex and interconnected.

A longer appointment is necessary as functional medicine practitioners use a patient-centered, personalised approach chronic health problems by looking at the whole person, including their lifestyle, environment, genetics, and personal history. I use a range of evidence-based therapies and interventions, including pathology testing, nutrition, lifestyle changes and supplements when necessary, to promote healing and restore balance to the body's systems.

The goal of functional medicine is to address the underlying causes of disease, rather than just treating the symptoms, and to help patients achieve optimal health and wellness for the long term. It emphasises the importance of patient education, empowerment, and engagement in their own healthcare, and aims to create a partnership between the patient and practitioner to achieve the best possible health outcomes.

How Can I help you?

My aim is to understanding the underlying causes of disease that are quite often linked to both nutritional and environmental factors. The human body needs many nutrients to support the proper biochemical processes needed to function well and maintain optimal health.

By identifying how your specific biochemistry is functioning, we can assess if deficiencies are present (or likely present), and begin to address the root cause of the dysfunction.
